In crisis? Call or text 988 — Veterans press 1. Safe Call Now: (206) 459-3020

About us

Ten percent of the job shapes ninety percent of the life

First Responder Forward exists to make sure the hardest calls do not define the rest of a career — or the rest of a person.

How First Responder Forward and First Responder Forward fit together

First Responder Forward LLC

The company behind this website. It owns and delivers all education: classes, webinars, agency training, conference presentations, and written resources.

First Responder Forward

Its flagship project. First Responder Forward is the connection side of the work: the reviewed therapist and coach directory, the Support Navigator, and partnerships with organizations serving public safety.

In short: First Responder Forward LLC teaches; First Responder Forward connects. Neither provides clinical care.

Our story

For most people, emergencies are rare moments in life. For first responders, they are part of the job. Responders receive extensive training on tactics, laws, and procedures — and very little on how chronic stress, trauma exposure, and cumulative operational demands affect the mind and body across a career.

That gap is why this work exists. Rather than waiting until someone is in crisis, education should begin early: stress physiology, resilience, post-traumatic growth, moral injury, identity, and practical strategies for long-term wellness. And when more support is needed, responders deserve clinicians and coaches who understand the culture and demands of public safety.

Why First Responder Forward

Every profession has occupational hazards. In public safety, many of the greatest risks are invisible: chronic stress, compassion fatigue, burnout, moral injury, and identity loss rarely arrive after a single incident. They build across years of service, often without anyone naming them.

Our mission is to educate, equip, and empower first responders through evidence-informed training, research translation, leadership development, and practical wellness resources — and to help responders and their families find clinicians and mental health coaches who genuinely understand the profession. Making research practical, improving access to informed care, and treating help-seeking as professional strength: that is the whole of it.

Those who dedicate their lives to protecting others deserve education, support, and professionals who understand the realities of the job.

Core values

What guides every program we build

Education

We believe knowledge is one of the most effective forms of prevention. Understanding stress, trauma, and resilience empowers first responders to care for themselves and those they serve.

Evidence-Informed Practice

Our training and resources are grounded in current research while remaining practical and relevant to the realities of public safety.

Service

We are committed to serving those who dedicate their lives to serving others.

Connection

Healing and resilience are strengthened through meaningful relationships. We strive to connect first responders with trusted clinicians, mental health coaches, organizations, and resources that understand their unique experiences.

Integrity

We are committed to providing honest, credible, and transparent information that first responders and organizations can trust.

Resilience

We believe resilience is not simply the ability to endure adversity — it is the ability to learn, adapt, recover, and continue moving forward with purpose.
